Name: Jeremy Shatan
Where You Live: NYC
What You Do: Executive Director, Hope & Heroes
How You Walk The Walk: Co-Captain of Team Jacob, along with my wife, Karen Capucilli
How Long Have You Walked?: Since the beginning!
Your Motivation: I walk for my son, Jacob. He was only 2 ½ when he died in 1999 due to a brain tumor. Jacob’s doctors did their very best but, thanks to research, they can do even better today and treatments are continuing to improve all the time. My career is dedicated to finding meaning in his experience and helping families and medical professionals in the world of pediatric cancer and blood disorders. That's what makes working at Hope & Heroes such an amazing experience for me.

Your Favorite Part of the Walk: Just the feeling of togetherness and joy. Everyone – patients, parents, siblings, doctors, nurses, staff, volunteers, donors, board members – is there for one reason, and the unity of purpose is thrilling.
Anything Else?: Frankly, I was against doing a walk for years. It’s one of the most labor-intensive events you can put on and we weren’t sure if anyone would come. Boy was I wrong! I am continually bowled over by the response to the Hope & Heroes Walk and filled with gratitude at everyone who has worked so hard to make it such a great day!
