Walking for My Little Hero!
I are thrilled to be a part of the 8th Annual Hope & Heroes Walk on Sunday, May 21st, 2017! I will be walking with my little hero Uma to bring awareness to Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) and the amazing care being provided at Columbia University Medical Center.
On October 23rd, 2016, we celebrated Uma's 1 Year Anniversary of her last chemotherapy treatment for LCH!
(Now that is definitely an anniversary worth celebrating)
Everyday we are one step closer to Uma being in complete remission. Nishant and I are blessed, thrilled and grateful that Uma is a “non-active” patient (which describes patients who are free of symptoms and signs of LCH), thanks to the wonderful care we received at Columbia University Medical Center. Nishant and I (and the doctors at Columbia University Medical Center) monitor Uma closely but by all accounts (and loads of tests) she is a beatufiul, thriving, smart, energetic...but, most importantly, HEALTHY three year old. While reactivation occurs in about one third of patients who had disease, it is rare in most patients like Uma and we look forward to 2020 when Uma is officially considered cured of LCH!
Unfortunately many of Uma's fellow patients and friends at the Medical Center have a longer road ahead. We know first hand how hard - physically, emotionally, and financially - having a child with Cancer can be. The mission of Hope & Heroes is to fund the life-saving work on childhood cancer and blood disorders (like LCH) at Columbia University Medical Center that includes cutting-edge research, support for families, and care that always puts children first. With your help, Hope & Heroes can continue supporting the patients, programs and research at the Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology & Stem Cell Transplantation at Columbia University Medical Center.
