Welcome to My Team Sienna
I am thrilled to be a part of this great day to support children with cancer and blood disorders and their families. Our family owes a great deal to Hope and Heroes which has supported our Clare since the day she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Spring 2007. It's unbelievable that 10+ years have gone by since the day we heard "Your child has cancer" or some version of that. So much is a blur.
But EVEN now 10 years after treatment (as of July) the wonderful doctors, nurses, child-life specialists and other support staff of the clinic at Columbia, supported by Hope and Heroes, are still a part of Clare's life and ongoing support. From medical visits to filling out forms for camp and scholarships, to inviting Clare to speak for them at an annual dinner and at the NYCFC soccer game this snowy spring, we feel so connected.
We walk as part of Team Sienna because we knew that very special little girl as she battled cancer in the next room at MSCHONY Hospital at times, or during chemo infusion at the clinic side by side with Clare. No other child should leave this world so soon. We miss her and continue to be a part of Team Sienna with the Cavalho family. And a big thanks to Patty for continuing to lead this fundraising event. Please join us.
With your help, Hope & Heroes can continue supporting the patients, programs (and research at the Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology & Stem Cell Transplantation at Columbia University Medical Center. The Division, located at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, is one of the largest and most distinguished centers for children with cancer and blood disorders in the country. They are depending on us to make sure their unique programs are available to all the children they treat and that their scientists keep working until they find a cure.
Please give as generously as you can - or consider joining my team and walking with us. It is an inspiring and fun day for the whole family.
